Highly reactive and thermally stable Ag/YSZ catalysts with macroporous fiber-like morphology for soot combustion

Hanying Liang et al.

Summary: A hierarchical Ag/YSZ catalyst with macroporous fiber-like morphology was synthesized, showing significantly improved accessibility for soot combustion. The re-dispersed fine Ag nanoparticles after ageing treatments led to abundant electrophilic O- species, resulting in enhanced soot elimination efficiency in a loose contact mode, offering a new opportunity for improving catalyzed gasoline particulate filters.

Ag-doped manganese oxide catalyst for gasoline particulate filters: Effect of crystal phase on soot oxidation activity

Min June Kim et al.

Summary: The manganese oxide catalysts were synthesized using a hydrothermal method with the addition of silver to enhance active oxygen generation. In experiments under GPF conditions, Mn2O3 showed higher soot oxidation activity compared to cryptomelane due to its better regeneration of active oxygen. This study unveiled the main factor contributing to the soot oxidation activity of manganese oxide, providing insights for further research in this field.

Insights into the Reactive and Deactivation Mechanisms of Manganese Oxides for Ozone Elimination: The Roles of Surface Oxygen Species

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: Manganese oxides with varied Mn valence states but identical morphologies were successfully synthesized using a simple thermal treatment method. Among them, MnO2-H-200 showed superior ozone decomposition capacity, which was strongly associated with abundant oxygen vacancies on its surface. By combining various characterization techniques, the different O3 decomposition efficiencies among Mn3O4, Mn2O3, and MnO2 were found to be dependent on the nature of oxygen vacancies present.

Synergy of NTP-La1-xAgxMn1-yCoyO3-δ Hybrid for Soot Catalytic Combustion at Low Temperature

Shixin Liu et al.

Summary: Ag and Co co-doped La1-xAgxMn1-yCoyO3-delta perovskites were prepared using the citric acid sol-gel method. When combined with non-thermal plasma (NTP), the efficiency of soot removal from diesel exhaust gas was significantly improved, with the hybrid La0.5Ag0.5Mn0.8Co0.2O3-delta showing the highest performance. The synergistic catalytic effect of NTP and La1-xAgxMn1-yCoyO3-delta was attributed to the coordination of short-living species in plasma, adsorbed oxygen, and Ag nanoparticles on the material surface.

Investigation of the ozone-induced oxidation of soot over LaMnO3 catalyst using O3/O2 temperature-programmed desorption experiments

Tae Uk Park et al.

Summary: This study investigated the catalytic redox cycle occurring on the surface of a lanthanum manganese oxide catalyst, with superoxide ions combined with Mn4+ ions playing a key role in promoting ozone-induced soot oxidation. The redox cycle involved the migration of superoxide ions over surface Mn4+ sites and the Mn4+-to-Mn3+ transition to complete the cycle of oxidation. Evidence suggested that the redox cycle exclusively occurred on the catalyst's surface.

Summary: This study found that the oxidation of soot induced by ozone was greatly enhanced by using La1-xKxMnO3 as a catalyst in the temperature range of 100-150 degrees C. The degree of K-substitution had little influence on the catalytic activity of ozone-induced soot oxidation.
