Surgery for pre- and minimally invasive lung adenocarcinoma

Yang Zhang et al.

Summary: Sublobar resection, especially wedge resection without lymph node dissection, may be the preferred surgical procedure for patients with AIS/MIA. Postoperative follow-up intervals may be extended if there are no risk factors. Further studies are needed to validate these implications.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Excellent Prognosis of Patients With Invasive Lung Adenocarcinomas During Surgery Misdiagnosed as Atypical Adenomatous Hyperplasia, Adenocarcinoma In Situ, or Minimally Invasive Adenocarcinoma by Frozen Section

Yang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study showed that patients with invasive LUAD misdiagnosed as AAH, AIS, or MIA by FS analysis had excellent prognoses after undergoing limited resection. Sublobar resection guided by FS diagnosis may be adequate for treating these underestimated cases of invasive LUAD.

Long-Term Prognosis of Patients With Resected Adenocarcinoma In Situ and Minimally Invasive Adenocarcinoma of the Lung

Masaya Yotsukura et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the prognosis of patients with adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) or minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA) after more than 5 postoperative years. No recurrence of lung cancer was observed in this time frame, and the 10-year survival rates were 100% for both AIS and MIA cases. The low risk of recurrence at more than 5 years after resection highlights the clinical value of distinguishing AIS and MIA from other lung adenocarcinomas.
