Generation and Focusing of Orbital Angular Momentum Based on Polarized Reflectarray at Microwave Frequency

Fengxia Li et al.

Summary: A novel polarized reflectarray is designed and characterized for controlling wave generation and focusing of orbital angular momentum (OAM) vortices in the microwave frequency regime. The reflectarray can significantly reduce beam diameter and improve transmission efficiency of the OAM vortex beams, showing good agreement between numerical and experimental results. The proposed design method and reflectarrays may lead to new efficient approaches for generating and focusing OAM vortex waves in microwave wireless communications applications.

Optical spanner for nanoparticle rotation with focused optical vortex generated through a Pancharatnam-Berry phase metalens

Zhe Shen et al.

Summary: The focused optical vortex generated by a metalens can manipulate metal nanoparticles in the orbital angular momentum field, trapping them inside the vortex ring and causing rotation through azimuthal driving force. The azimuthal force and rotation speed are directly proportional and inversely proportional to particle size, respectively, while the torque for the same particle increases with the topological charge of the metalens. Additionally, the radius of the vortex ring or the optical spanner's range has a positive correlation with focal length when considering the same topological charge.

Demonstration of microwave plasmonic-like vortices with tunable topological charges by a single metaparticle

Guangxu Su et al.

Summary: Optical vortices with helical wave fronts have attracted significant interest in the optics and photonics community, offering additional light manipulation capabilities with wide-ranging potential applications. Recent advancements in using metallic microstructures to confine plasmonic vortices to deep subwavelength dimensions have facilitated photonic integration on chips. Experimental demonstration of near-field optical vortices with tunable topological charges supported by a single metaparticle in the microwave regime has been achieved through the excitation of spoof surface plasmons, providing an efficient method for generating deterministic subwavelength optical vortices with potential applications in photonic integrated chips.
