Identification of Volatile Organic Compounds in Extremophilic Bacteria and Their Effective Use in Biocontrol of Postharvest Fungal Phytopathogens

Laura Toral et al.

Summary: Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are gaining importance in the food industry as a safe and ecofriendly alternative to pesticides for combating phytopathogenic fungal growth in postharvest fruits and vegetables. Various strains of bacteria were analyzed for their ability to produce VOCs that inhibit the growth of different fungal species, showing potential in controlling postharvest diseases.
