Research on the thermochemical conversion utilization of nitrogen-rich microalgae: Two-step catalytic pyrolysis of Nannochloropsis sp over ZSM-5

Liqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the two-step pyrolysis characteristics of Nannochloropsis sp (NCS) over ZSM-5. The results showed that ZSM-5 increased the weight loss and pyrolysis temperature of NCS. Kinetic analysis revealed that NCS pyrolysis followed a one-dimensional shrinking core model, and ZSM-5 decreased the activation energy. Compared to one-step pyrolysis, two-step pyrolysis improved the selectivity of N-heterocyclic compounds, and catalytic two-step pyrolysis reduced product complexity and increased selectivity of olefins, nitriles, and aromatic hydrocarbons.

Adsorption modeling, thermodynamics, and DFT simulation of tetracycline onto mesoporous and high-surface-area NaOH-activated macroalgae carbon

Manman Wei et al.

Summary: In this study, activated carbon (ENAC) was prepared by NaOH activation using macroalgae as raw material, resulting in a material with a large surface area and total pore volume. The adsorption of tetracycline (TC) by ENAC followed the Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetics, indicating its potential application in antibiotic removal from aqueous solutions.

Comparative study of continuous-stirred and batch microwave pyrolysis of linear low-density polyethylene in the presence/absence of HZSM-5

Liangliang Fan et al.

Summary: The study compared the performance of a continuous-stirred microwave pyrolysis (CSMP) reactor with batch microwave pyrolysis (BMP) in the conversion of LLDPE, finding that the continuous-stirred system generated more condensate products with longer carbon chains while the batch system produced more methane. The use of a catalytic bed helped in upgrading pyrolysis vapors for increased gasoline-range hydrocarbons and propylene production.

High-grade biofuel production from catalytic pyrolysis of waste clay oil using modified activated seaweed carbon-based catalyst

Chuan Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, seaweed char-based catalyst modified with copper loading showed good catalytic performance in pyrolysis of waste clay oil, leading to high-quality biofuels with significant decarboxylation and aromatization effects. The catalyst effectively reformed pyrolysis volatiles, promoting the production of hydrocarbons, especially aromatic hydrocarbons. The hydrogen content in the gas-phase product decreased significantly, possibly due to hydrogenation reactions catalyzed by the modified seaweed char-based catalyst.
