In-situ construction of metallic Ni3C@Ni core-shell cocatalysts over g-C3N4 nanosheets for shell-thickness-dependent photocatalytic H2 production

Rongchen Shen et al.

Summary: The shell-thickness-controlled Ni3C@Ni/g-C3N4 photocatalysts were designed with intimate Schottky junctions using an in situ high-temperature transformation strategy. Optimized Ni shell-layer thickness of 15 nm achieved the best visible-light photocatalytic H2-production performance. The intimate Schottky-junctions hinder rapid charge recombination, increase reactive sites, and boost catalytic kinetics, leading to shellthickness-dependent hydrogen evolution.

The design space for long-duration energy storage in decarbonized power systems

Nestor A. Sepulveda et al.

Summary: Wind and solar energy need to be supplemented by energy storage and firm generating capacity. Long-duration energy storage is seen as a potential solution to intermittency in renewable energy generation. The key parameters for the performance of energy storage are energy capacity cost and discharge efficiency. Storage systems with durations exceeding 100 hours have the greatest impact on electricity cost and firm generation.

Optimal energy storage portfolio for high and ultrahigh carbon-free and renewable power systems

Omar J. Guerra et al.

Summary: Achieving high or ultrahigh carbon-free or renewable energy mixes requires combining multiple flexibility options, including renewable curtailment, short-duration, long-duration, and seasonal storage. The cost competitiveness of seasonal storage becomes crucial between 80% and 95% energy mix targets, depending on the specific power system. Additionally, using storage-to-storage operation and decoupling of charging and discharging storage power capacity are cost-effective options for integrating high shares of carbon-free or renewable power sources.

In situ construction of protonated g-C3N4/Ti3C2 MXene Schottky heterojunctions for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production

Haotian Xu et al.

Summary: The heterojunction photocatalyst of PCN/Ti3C2 MXene exhibits a highly improved hydrogen evolution rate, thanks to the well-defined dimensionality and perfectly matched interfaces with strong interfacial interactions. The charge-regulated surfaces of PCN and the accelerated charge transport at the face-to-face 2D/2D Schottky heterojunction interface are the main reasons for the excellent hydrogen evolution performance.

Sulfur-mediated photodeposition synthesis of NiS cocatalyst for boosting H-2-evolution performance of g-C3N4 photocatalyst

Min Wang et al.

Summary: By utilizing a sulfur-mediated photodeposition method, NiS cocatalysts were successfully deposited in situ on the g-C3N4 surface, providing more active sites for H-2 production. The reaction was conducted at room temperature using solar energy, and the synthesized NiS/g-C3N4 photocatalyst achieved excellent hydrogen generation performance, demonstrating the versatility and efficiency of this approach for synthesizing high-efficiency photocatalysts.
