Effect of heat treatment on microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of selective laser melted Ti-6Al-4V and TiB/Ti-6Al-4V composite: A comparative study

Hailiang Li et al.

Summary: Post heat treatment significantly influences the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of SLM-fabricated Ti-6Al-4V alloy and titanium matrix composite. The TiB precipitates in the TMC samples grew into larger whiskers with improved mechanical performance after heat treatment. A finer dual-phase matrix microstructure was achieved for TMC samples with higher yield strength after heat treatment.

On the macro- and micro-deformation mechanisms of selectively laser melted damage tolerant metallic lattice structures

Summary: 316L stainless steel lattice structures were prepared by selective laser melting with different laser powers. The increase in laser power led to slightly larger strut sizes and increased relative density. The lattice structures with Z-struts showed higher compressive strengths and specific energy absorption compared to those without Z-struts.

Selective laser melting of Ti6Al4V: Effect of laser re-melting

J. Karimi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of remelting on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti6Al4V materials fabricated using selective laser melting. The results showed that the number of remeltings significantly influenced the homogenization of the microstructure and mechanical properties of the materials, with an increase in hardness and ultimate tensile strength but a decrease in ductility observed with a higher number of melting steps.

Summary: The study explores the effects of melting sequence on the microstructure, substructure, and mechanical properties of SLM Ti6Al4V alloys. Results show that increasing melting sequence leads to higher density of twins and dislocations, as well as improved tensile strength properties.
