Study of the structure and radiation-protective properties of yttrium barium copper oxide ceramic doped with different oxides

E. Hannachi et al.

Summary: The research focused on studying the structure and radiation shielding performances of YBCO-123 ceramics doped with different oxides. The different ceramics were found to crystallize into an orthorhombic structure with Pmmm symmetry. Through Monte Carlo simulation, it was discovered that the doping oxides disturbed the orthorhombic crystal structure of YBCO-123 and affected their radiation shielding capabilities.

Summary: A novel phosphate-based glass system was synthesized for potential dental applications, with non-toxic compounds and specific chemical composition. The glass showed changes in refractive index, direct energy gap, and gamma-ray shielding capacity with varying P2O5 concentrations. The highest linear attenuation coefficient was observed for glass samples with 40 mol% of P2O5, while the lowest was found for glass samples with 60 mol% of P2O5 compounds.

Crystallite size of pure tin oxide ceramics and its growth during sintering determined from XRD line broadening-A methodological case study and a practitioners' guide

Petra Simonova et al.

Summary: Due to the dominance of non-densifying sintering mechanisms, pure tin oxide ceramics exhibit unique sintering behavior that allows sintering without shrinkage, making it ideal for fundamental studies. While different evaluation methods show significant differences, similar qualitative conclusions can be drawn regardless of the specific method used. Crystallite growth in pure tin oxide ceramics from nanosized powders is only expected at temperatures above 1000 degrees C, and prolonging dwell times beyond 3 hours does not significantly affect the crystallite size.
