Preparation of New Glycerol-Based Dendrimers and Studies on Their Behavior toward Essential Oil Encapsulation

Chloe Maes et al.

Summary: Two new families of glycerol-based dendrimers have been synthesized, and their encapsulation ability for essential oils has been studied. High-generation GD-PAMAMs and GD-PPIs showed the best results in encapsulating the oils. NMR spectroscopy revealed that there were no direct interactions between the dendrimers and the oils, but the dendrimers exhibited compression behavior in stable emulsions.

A temperature-responsive release cellulose-based microcapsule loaded with chlorpyrifos for sustainable pest control

Douxin Xiao et al.

Summary: A temperature-responsive release microcapsule loaded with chlorpyrifos showed high pesticide-loading efficiency, adhesion on plant foliage, and protection against photodegradation. The controlled-release characteristics of the microcapsule could be adjusted based on temperature changes and the efficacy against pests was positively correlated with temperature-induced release rate changes. The acute toxicity of the microcapsule to zebrafish was significantly reduced compared to conventional pesticide formulations. These findings suggest that the microcapsule release system has great potential in developing effective and environmentally friendly pesticide formulations.

Formulation composition, manufacturing process, and characterization of poly(lactide-co-glycolide) microparticles

Kinam Park et al.

Summary: Injectable long-acting formulations, particularly those based on poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA), have been utilized for systemic drug delivery for up to 6 months, but the development of clinical products and generics has been slow. The limited understanding of PLGA polymers and the complex variables involved in composition and manufacturing processes hinder the control over formulation properties and drug efficacy. Factors such as formulation composition, manufacturing processes, and surface morphology play crucial roles in determining the pharmacokinetic profile of the formulations, highlighting the importance of proper characterization and control of these parameters for desired drug release kinetics and efficacy.

On the problem of stability/instability of bimetallic core-shell nanostructures: Molecular dynamics and thermodynamic simulations

V. M. Samsonov et al.

Summary: The study shows that the stability of core-shell nanostructures is influenced by thermodynamic and kinetic factors. According to the hypothesis, the stability of core-shell nanostructures is related to the spontaneous surface segregation of components within a certain temperature range.

Use of New Glycerol-Based Dendrimers for Essential Oils Encapsulation: Optimization of Stirring Time and Rate Using a Plackett-Burman Design and a Surface Response Methodology

Chloe Maes et al.

Summary: This study focuses on encapsulating essential oils within dendrimers to control their volatility, with optimization of parameters leading to longer retention. By screening and optimizing six key parameters through Plackett-Burmann design and surface response methodology, the study determined effective factors for retention rate. Different combinations were found to be optimal depending on the molecular structure.

Aerogels in drug delivery: From design to application

Carlos A. Garcia-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: Aerogels, as the lightest solid materials on Earth, have shown great potential in drug delivery due to their high porosity and specific surface area. By tuning the aerogel structure and functionalization, site-specific, stimuli-responsive, and prolonged drug release can be achieved. This review highlights the recent advances in aerogels for drug delivery, focusing on loading efficiency, release kinetics, therapeutic demands, as well as gene therapy and life cycle assessment.

Essential Oil-Based Bioherbicides: Human Health Risks Analysis

Chloe Maes et al.

Summary: The development of new bio-based products for biocontrol is gaining momentum as a means to reduce the use of synthetic herbicides in agriculture. However, the potential risks associated with natural molecules, such as essential oils, as biopesticides also need to be carefully evaluated to ensure their safe and effective use.
