Oncofid-P-B: a novel treatment for BCG unresponsive carcinoma in situ (CIS) of the bladder: Results of a prospective European Multicentre study at 15 months from treatment start

Rodolfo Hurle et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the safety and efficacy of Oncofid-P-B in CIS patients who are unresponsive or intolerant to BCG, showing a 75% complete response rate after 12 weeks of treatment and a 40% complete response rate still after 15 months. Only 7 drug-related adverse events were reported, with drug concentrations below the limit of quantification in all plasma samples.

Cell migration inducing hyaluronidase 1 (CEMIP) activates STAT3 pathway to facilitate cell proliferation and migration in breast cancer

Yu Chen et al.

Summary: CEMIP is upregulated in both breast cancer tissues and cell lines, and its higher expression is associated with shorter survival time. Knockdown of CEMIP suppresses the proliferation, migration, and invasion of breast cancer cells. Our data suggests that CEMIP promotes breast cancer cell proliferation and migration via the GRP78-STAT3 axis, demonstrating its potential as a therapeutic target for breast cancer.

The functional cross talk between cancer cells and cancer associated fibroblasts from a cancer mechanics perspective

Arian Ansardamavandi et al.

Summary: The function of biological tissues is regulated at cellular level and is highly influenced by the physical microenvironment. In cancer, both chemical and physical signaling cascades play important roles in tumor growth and invasion, with cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) being crucial in this process. The interaction between cells and ECM, through mechanosensing pathways, defines the progression and invasion of cancer cells.

The action of hyaluronan in functional properties, morphology and expression of matrix effectors in mammary cancer cells depends on its molecular size

Anastasia-Gerasimoula Tavianatou et al.

Summary: Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease, and hyaluronan (HA) can influence the functional properties and morphology of breast cancer cells. Studies have shown that 200-kDa HA fragments exhibit antiproliferative effects on ER beta-suppressed breast cancer cells.

Hyaluronic acid (HA)-coated naproxen-nanoparticles selectively target breast cancer stem cells through COX-independent pathways

Eva Espinosa-Cano et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of hyaluronic acid-coated naproxen polymeric nanoparticles targeting cancer stem cells in metastatic breast cancer. The HA-coating improved drug release control, enhanced hemocompatibility, and displayed strong CSC-targeting efficacy in breast cancer cells. The nano-formulated NAP significantly reduced cell viability and migration, possibly through inducing apoptosis via a GSK-3 beta-related pathway, suggesting potential for improving the treatment of advanced breast cancer.

Reduced hyaluronan cross-linking induces breast cancer malignancy in a CAF-dependent manner

Guoliang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the deficiency of cross-linked HA induced breast cancer malignancy in a CAF-dependent manner, with CAFs restoring high levels of cross-linked HA and inhibiting malignancy through upregulating TSG6. These findings suggest that recovering HA cross-linking may be a potential therapeutic strategy.
