Layered manganese dioxide nanoflowers with Cu2+and Bi3+ intercalation as high-performance cathode for aqueous zinc-ion battery

Fengni Long et al.

Summary: In this study, two cathode materials with nanoflower structures, Cu0.06MnO2·1.7H2O (CuMO) and Bi0.09MnO2·1.5H2O (BiMO), have been successfully designed for high-performance AZIBs. The layered structures of these materials are sustained by pre-intercalated metal ions and water molecules, improving their stability. CuMO exhibits excellent electronic conductivity and remarkable specific capacities, while BiMO demonstrates long-term cycling stability.

A hafnium oxide-coated dendrite-free zinc anode for rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries

Bin Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple strategy involving application of a HfO2 coating was used to guide uniform deposition of Zn2+ to suppress formation of zinc dendrites, resulting in improved electrochemical performance of zinc anode. The HfO2-coated zinc anode demonstrated lower voltage hysteresis and better cycling performance in zinc-zinc symmetric cells and Zn-MnO2 full cells, showing potential for future development of rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries.

The Li3V2(PO4)3@C materials prepared by freeze-drying assisted sol-gel method for an aqueous zinc ion hybrid battery

Youliang Jiang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the fast ion and electron delivery inside electrode materials for aqueous zincion hybrid batteries. Composites of LVP@C were successfully fabricated, with the LVP@C-05 sample showing the best electrochemical performance due to its excellent crystallinity and uniform particle distribution. In terms of charging-discharging and CV results, LVP@C-05 exhibited the highest initial capacity and ionic diffusion coefficient, as well as the lowest charge transfer resistance among the samples tested.

High-mass loading V3O7•H2O nanoarray for Zn-ion battery: New synthesis and two-stage ion intercalation chemistry

Duo Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a new synthesis approach for V3O7 center dot H2O nanoarray cathode with large mass loadings is introduced, along with an empirical model to evaluate the utilization ratio of active materials. By combining first-principles calculations and ex-situ characterizations, a two-step Zn2+ intercalation mechanism in V3O7 center dot H2O is identified for the first time, providing insights for the design of high-massloading battery materials.

Boosting Li3V2(PO4)3 cathode stability using a concentrated aqueous electrolyte for high-voltage zinc batteries

Cuixia Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that using a concentrated aqueous electrolyte based on Zn and Li salts can significantly address the capacity decay and voltage drop issues of the Li3V2(PO4)(3) cathode, resulting in a high output voltage and long lifespan for the Zn//Li3V2(PO4)(3) battery. Structural and spectroscopic characterizations show that the battery operates through Li+ (de)intercalation into the cathode and Zn2+ plating/stripping at the anode.
