Potential biodegradation of Tapis Light Crude Petroleum Oil, using palm oil mill effluent final discharge as biostimulant for isolated halotolerant Bacillus strains

Khalid Sayed et al.

Summary: This study focuses on constructing an efficient indigenous bacterial consortium to biodegrade TLCO, with POME FD used as a biostimulant to enhance degradation efficiency. Three TLCO degrading bacteria were isolated from seawater samples, and through molecular identification, it was found that the bacterial consortium composed of Bacillus tropicus, Bacillus licheniformis, and Bacillus subtilis. The results confirmed that POME FD dosage of 0.25% is optimal for degrading TLCO, with the consortium able to degrade up to 99.85% of TLCO at 0.5% concentration.

Biodiversity and oil degradation capacity of oil-degrading bacteria isolated from deep-sea hydrothermal sediments of the South Mid-Atlantic Ridge

Meng Ma et al.

Summary: This study reveals the presence of various hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria in global deep-sea hydrothermal regions, with a high diversity of culturable oil-degrading bacteria that could be used for oil pollution bioremediation. The dominant oil-degrading bacteria in the Southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge hydrothermal region belong to Nitratireductor, Pseudonocardia, Brevundimonas, and Acinetobacter.
