Exploring a two-product unreliable manufacturing system as a capacity constraint for a two-echelon supply chain dynamic problem

Antonio Costa et al.

Summary: In this paper, a two-echelon, two-product Supply Chain is investigated, considering the impact of product change-over time and machine breakdowns on production capacity. Experimental analysis reveals the variations in fill rate and inventory standard deviation. The study highlights the interaction between production planning model and replenishment strategy, which significantly affects the performance of the Supply Chain.

Production planning and control in multi-stage assembly systems: an assessment of Kanban, MRP, OPT (DBR) and DDMRP by simulation

Matthias Thurer et al.

Summary: This study uses simulation to assess the performance of four PPC systems under different levels of bottleneck severity and due date tightness. Results show that MRP performs the worst, while Kanban and DDMRP perform the best if there is no bottleneck. If there is a bottleneck, DDMRP and OPT perform the best, with DDMRP realizing lower inventory levels.

Ripple effect and supply chain disruption management: new trends and research directions

Alexandre Dolgui et al.

Summary: The ripple effect is a specific area in supply chains that has a strong impact on supply chain resilience. Research shows how disruptive events spread through the supply chain and affect its resilience and performance. In recent years, research on ripple effect management, modeling, and assessment has gained significant interest.

Risk-averse supplier selection and order allocation in the centralized supply chains under disruption risks

Elham Esmaeili-Najafabadi et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a mixed-integer non-linear programming model for supplier selection and order allocation in a centralized supply chain, with a focus on geographical characteristics and disruption risks. It explores the differences in decision maker behavior between risk-neutral and risk-averse models, using various risk assessment tools for analysis. The study shows the impact of decision maker's attitude on supplier selection and order quantity, and compares solution approaches for efficiency.

Modelling of supply chain disruption analytics using an integrated approach: An emerging economy example

Syed Mithun Ali et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop a framework to identify, analyze, and assess supply chain disruption factors and drivers using an integrated approach. Through empirical analysis in the ready-made garment industry in Bangladesh, the study identified and examined sixteen disruption drivers, confirming the robustness and viability of the framework through sensitivity analysis. By expanding the literature scope of supply chain disruption risk assessment, this research provides managers with the ability to formulate effective mitigation strategies and make proactive decisions.

Quality grading of returns and the dynamics of remanufacturing

Borja Ponte et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of quality grading of returned products on the dynamic behavior of closed-loop supply chains. It reveals a quality paradox where lower quality returns may improve inventory performance but have a mixed impact on customer satisfaction. Through control engineering techniques, the inventory and sales performance of the supply chain are evaluated, and the operational savings and additional costs from quality grading are discussed.
