Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS): Key Components in Cancer Therapies

Biswa Mohan Sahoo et al.

Summary: This article introduces the definition and generation pathways of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), as well as their role in the development of cancer. ROS can act as tumor-suppressing or tumor-promoting agents, and their increased levels can inhibit tumor growth or induce apoptosis. However, high levels of ROS can also lead to the formation of malignant tumors.

A modular ROS-responsive platform co-delivered by 10-hydroxycampto-thecin and dexamethasone for cancer treatment

Qingye Meng et al.

Summary: Combination therapy using a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive micelle loaded with dexamethasone (DEX) as a synergistic drug showed improved efficacy in releasing intact HCPT molecules in tumor cells. This co-delivery system demonstrated ideal tumor suppressive effects in both in vivo and in vitro settings. The modular multi-drug platform design provides a convenient strategy for future clinical treatment by selecting appropriate synergistic drugs according to the treatment plan.

Overcoming the compensatory elevation of NRF2 renders hepatocellular carcinoma cells more vulnerable to disulfiram/copper-induced ferroptosis

Xueying Ren et al.

Summary: DSF/Cu selectively exerts efficient cytotoxic effect on HCC cells, inhibits migration, invasion, and angiogenesis of HCC cells, impairs mitochondrial homeostasis, increases free iron pool, enhances lipid peroxidation, and eventually results in ferroptotic cell death. Inhibition of NRF2 elevation strengthens HCC cells more vulnerable to DSF/Cu induced ferroptosis.
