Protein-protein interactions in fatty acid elongase complexes are important for very-long-chain fatty acid synthesis

Juyoung Kim et al.

Summary: Interactions between KCS9 and other proteins in the fatty acid elongase complex are essential for the synthesis of very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs). This study provides insights into the quaternary structure and protein-protein interactions of the fatty acid elongase complex, highlighting their importance for efficient VLCFA synthesis.

Genome-wide identification and expression pattern analysis of theKCSgene family in barley

Tao Tong et al.

Summary: This study characterized the KCS gene family in barley using genome sequences, identifying 33 KCS genes unevenly distributed in the genome. These genes were divided into 12 subgroups with diverse tissue expression patterns and overlapping functions. Barley KCS genes exhibited different response characteristics under drought stress.

MdKCS2 increased plant drought resistance by regulating wax biosynthesis

Xin-Yu Lian et al.

Summary: The apple wax-related gene MdKCS2 plays a role in enhancing plant resistance to drought stress by increasing wax accumulation and changing epidermal permeability. Transgenic analysis indicated that MdKCS2 improved resistance to abiotic stress in apple calli. Ectopic expression of MdKCS2 in Arabidopsis increased wax content in leaves and stems, changed cuticle permeability, and enhanced drought resistance.
