Lower serum testosterone concentrations are associated with a higher incidence of dementia in men: The UK Biobank prospective cohort study

Impact of Testosterone on Alzheimer's Disease

Vittorio Emanuele Bianchi

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disease influenced by sex hormones. Animal models have shown that testosterone can protect neurons by reducing amyloid-beta production, improving synaptic signaling, and preventing neuronal death. Studies have found that prostate cancer patients receiving androgen deprivation therapy have a higher incidence of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Testosterone therapy in hypogonadal men with Alzheimer's disease and cognitive impairment has shown some positive results.

Summary: In a study of Caucasian men examined for suspected osteoporosis, no significant association was found between osteoporosis and metabolic syndrome. Waist circumference was inversely related to the risk of osteoporosis among metabolic syndrome constitutive elements.

Sexual Dysfunction in Patients With Chronic Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases: A neglected Issue

Lorenzo Romano et al.

Summary: This article provides a comprehensive review of the prevalence and pathophysiology of sexual dysfunction in patients with chronic gastrointestinal and liver disorders. Many gastrointestinal disorders are associated with sexual dysfunction, mainly due to the psychological and physiological changes caused by the diseases themselves, as well as chronic proinflammatory conditions. Therefore, a thorough evaluation of sexual function should be included in the clinical assessment to timely diagnose and treat sexual dysfunction in these patients.

Vincenzo Mirone et al.

Summary: The combination of Tadalafil 5 mg and nutritional supplements composed by Panax ginseng, Moringa Oleifera, and Rutin has shown significant efficacy in improving erectile function in men with mild and moderate vasculogenic ED. The nutritional supplements have demonstrated positive effects on the chronic treatment, enhancing the endothelial NO and cGMP production.

Suppression of Spermatogenesis by Exogenous Testosterone

Ferdinando Fusco et al.

Summary: Testosterone has a significant impact on sperm production and fertility, with exogenous androgen administration potentially disrupting normal spermatogenesis. While some studies suggest a return to baseline sperm concentration after discontinuation of testosterone treatment, there is uncertainty regarding the duration of recovery and whether the sperm count is sufficient for fertility.

Androgen Receptor Splice Variant 7 Predicts Shorter Response in Patients with Metastatic Hormone-sensitive Prostate Cancer Receiving Androgen Deprivation Therapy

Summary: AR-V7 expression in primary cancer tissue is correlated with poor prognosis for mHSPC patients receiving ADT. AR-V7-positive patients had significantly shorter PFS and OS compared to AR-V7-negative patients, indicating that AR-V7 is an independent predictive factor for shorter PFS. Limitations include sample size and follow-up period.

Hypogonadism in Patients with Prader Willi Syndrome: A Narrative Review

Luigi Napolitano et al.

Summary: Prader-Willi syndrome is a complex genetic disorder associated with the lack of a functional paternal copy of chromosome 15q11-q13, leading to a range of clinical manifestations. Hypogonadism is a common issue in PWS, and understanding its causes and exploring potential therapies is essential for improving quality of life for patients. Additional research is needed to clarify the genetic factors involved in hypogonadism and establish evidence-based treatments.
