Genetic characteristics and QTL analysis of the soluble sugar content in ripe tomato fruits

Yao Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genetic model and reasons for differences in soluble sugar content in ripe tomato fruits, revealing a negative dominance pattern and predominantly polygenic effect. Additionally, two chromosomal regions were identified, and 47 genes that may affect soluble sugar content in tomato fruits were initially screened using bulked-segregant analysis (BSA) sequencing analysis.

Plasma membrane-localized SlSWEET7a and SlSWEET14 regulate sugar transport and storage in tomato fruits

Xinsheng Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that suppressing SlSWEET7a and SlSWEET14 can increase the sugar content of tomato fruits, as well as result in taller plants and larger fruits. Additionally, there was an observed increase in invertase activity and gene expression of certain SlSWEET members, consistent with the higher availability of sucrose and hexose in the fruits.
