A high-resolution picture of kinship practices in an Early Neolithic tomb

Chris Fowler et al.

Summary: Through archaeological and genetic analyses, it was found that in Early Neolithic Britain, patrilineal descent played a key role in determining burial practices at Hazleton North long cairn, with evidence of male individuals reproducing with multiple women and maternal sub-lineages being recognized during the construction of the tomb. Additionally, social bonds independent of biological relatedness were also observed among individuals buried at the tomb.

Large-scale migration into Britain during the Middle to Late Bronze Age

Nick Patterson et al.

Summary: Present-day people from England and Wales have more ancestry derived from early European farmers, potentially due to early migration patterns and cultural exchanges. The utilization of dairy products differed qualitatively in Britain compared to continental Europe during the Iron Age.

The genomic origins of the Bronze Age Tarim Basin mummies

Fan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presents genomic data from the earliest human remains found in the Dzungarian Basin and Tarim Basin of Xinjiang, revealing a predominantly Afanasievo ancestry in the former and a local ancestry in the latter. The Tarim individuals showed evidence of dairy pastoralism. The findings do not support previous hypotheses about the origin of the Tarim mummies, suggesting a genetically isolated local population in the Tarim Basin.

Genomic insights into the formation of human populations in East Asia

Chuan-Chao Wang et al.

Summary: Using genome-wide data from 166 East Asian individuals dating to between 6000 BC and AD 1000, this study reveals the population history of Japan, the Amur River Basin, Taiwan, and the Tibetan Plateau. It traces expansions from different regions in East Asia during the Holocene epoch, shedding light on the genetic origins of present-day East Asian populations.

Ancient Mitochondrial Genomes Reveal Extensive Genetic Influence of the Steppe Pastoralists in Western Xinjiang

Chao Ning et al.

Summary: Ancient DNA studies in Xinjiang suggest that the population in the region since the early Bronze Age was a mixture of West Eurasian migrants and indigenous Central Asian people. Genetic links indicate an early presence of Indo-Iranian languages and suggest that the Andronovo culture in western Xinjiang involved both the spread of ideas and population movement.
