Genome-Wide Identification and Function of Aquaporin Genes During Dormancy and Sprouting Periods of Kernel-Using Apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.)

Shaofeng Li et al.

Summary: This study systematically identified 33 AQP genes from the apricot genome, categorized them into five subfamilies, and analyzed their phylogenetic relationships, collinear blocks, gene structures, conserved motifs, and promoter elements. Physiological mechanism prediction based on sequence analysis revealed differences in substrate specificity among PaAQP subfamilies. The expression patterns of PaAQPs in flower buds, coexpression networks with cold resistance genes, and protein-protein interaction networks in A. thaliana orthologs provided insights into the functional roles of PaAQPs in plant development and cold stress responses.

Identification of aquaporin members in Acacia auriculiformis and functional characterization of AaPIP1-2 involved in drought stress

Guihua Zhang et al.

Summary: This study provides comprehensive information on A. auriculiformis AQPs, identifying 21 AQP genes divided into four sub-families based on phylogenetic analysis. Functional prediction and gene expression profiles suggest that AQPs are responsive to environmental cues such as elevated CO2, salt, and drought, playing a role in maintaining water content and scavenging ROS. Heterologous expression of AaPIP1-2 in Arabidopsis thaliana showed positive responses to drought stress, potentially linked with up-regulated expression of AaAQP genes.

Identification and Characterization of Abiotic Stress Responsive CBL-CIPK Family Genes in Medicago

Wenxuan Du et al.

Summary: This study identified 23 CBL and 58 CIPK genes in Medicago sativa and Medicago truncatula, and classified them into different groups through phylogenetic analysis. The research revealed distinct expression patterns of these genes under various stress conditions, especially in response to drought, salt, and abscisic acid treatments. The findings suggested that CBL and CIPK genes play crucial roles in response to various abiotic stresses in Medicago.

Significance of solute specificity, expression, and gating mechanism of tonoplast intrinsic protein during development and stress response in plants

Sreeja Sudhakaran et al.

Summary: Tonoplast intrinsic proteins (TIPs) are transmembrane channels located mostly at the tonoplast of plant cells, transporting water and various small solutes. They play versatile roles in plant growth and development by regulating solute flow, maintaining physiological functions, and alleviating environmental stress. The tissue-specific expression of TIPs is conserved among diverse plant species, with particular importance observed for TIP3 in seed development and germination.
