Phytochemical and toxicological evaluation of Tamarix stricta Boiss

Roodabeh Bahramsoltani et al.

Summary: This study assessed the phytochemical and toxicological properties of T. stricta, a plant native to Iran. The results showed that the extract of T. stricta is rich in polyphenols and showed no signs of toxicity. Further pharmacological evaluations are recommended to explore the therapeutic properties of this plant.

Amelioration of hyperglycaemia and modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines byTamarix gallicafractions in alloxan induced diabetic rats

Maryam Malik et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the identification of phyto-constituents from the aerial parts of Tamarix gallica and evaluates its antioxidant, anti-diabetic, and anti-inflammatory potential. The methanolic extract showed better results in terms of antioxidant and alpha amylase inhibition. Phenolic and flavonoid contents were significantly higher in the methanolic extract, and there was a correlation between these contents and antioxidant activity. The methanolic fraction also showed significant reduction in inflammatory markers in diabetic rats. Overall, the study suggests that the methanolic fraction of T. gallica aerial parts has better anti-diabetic profile due to its alpha amylase, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory potential.

Melatonin increases growth and salt tolerance of Limonium bicolor by improving photosynthetic and antioxidant capacity

Junpeng Li et al.

Summary: This study found that melatonin promotes the growth of the halophyte Limonium bicolor under salt stress by improving photosynthesis and antioxidant enzyme activities. It also showed that melatonin upregulates the expression of genes related to photosynthesis, reactive oxygen species scavenging, and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) in L. bicolor under salt stress, thus improving salt tolerance.

Integrative transcriptome and proteome analyses provide deep insights into the molecular mechanism of salt tolerance in Limonium bicolor

Mingjing Zhang et al.

Summary: The integrative transcriptome and proteome analyses of Limonium bicolor revealed numerous candidate members involved in salt secretion from salt glands. This study identified differentially expressed transcripts and proteins related to salt-tolerance mechanisms, particularly those involved in transmembrane ion transport. The correlation between transcript and protein profiles indicated key players in salt tolerance, such as cellulose synthases and annexins, providing insights into the molecular mechanisms of salt tolerance in recretohalophytes.

The ThSOS3 Gene Improves the Salt Tolerance of Transgenic Tamarix hispida and Arabidopsis thaliana

Zhongyuan Liu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that overexpression of ThSOS3 enhances antioxidant enzyme activity, improves ROS scavenging capability, and reduces lipid peroxidation in cell membranes, resulting in better growth and response of plants under salt stress. This provides a foundation for further understanding the role of ThSOS in salt tolerance mechanisms in Tamarix hispida.

ThHSFA1 Confers Salt Stress Tolerance through Modulation of Reactive Oxygen Species Scavenging by Directly Regulating ThWRKY4

Ting-Ting Sun et al.

Summary: This study elucidated the regulatory mechanism of ThHSFA1-ThWRKY4 genes in response to salt stress in Tamarix hispida, with ThHSFA1 acting as an upstream regulator that can directly activate ThWRKY4 expression. Transgenic plants overexpressing ThHSFA1 exhibited enhanced salt tolerance, decreased reactive oxygen species levels, and increased antioxidant enzyme activity levels under salt stress.

Effects of different Tamarix chinensis-grass patterns on the soil quality coastal saline soil in the Yellow River Delta, China

Hongjun Yang et al.

Summary: The construction of circumlittoral shelter forest is significant for ecological security and safety in China's Yellow River Delta. Different Tamarix chinensis-grass community patterns have varying effects on reducing salt content, preventing alkalization, and increasing soil nutrients, with the mixed forest-grass pattern showing the best results.
