Expression of p16Ink4a protein in pleomorphic adenoma and carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma proves diversity of tumour biology and predicts clinical course

Ewelina Bartkowiak et al.

Summary: The study revealed significant differences in p16(Ink4a) expression between normal tissue, 'fast' and 'slow' pleomorphic adenomas. Overexpression of p16(Ink4a) may be related to proliferation of pleomorphic adenoma and subsequent malignant transformation to CaexPA. Borderline p16(Ink4a) staining correlates with worse prognosis of CaexPA.

Identification of prostate cancer specific methylation biomarkers from a multi-cancer analysis

Yiyi Pu et al.

Summary: This study identified and validated a panel of prostate cancer specific DNA methylation biomarkers with diagnostic value using multi-cancer data from TCGA and GEO. The biomarkers were able to differentiate between non-aggressive and aggressive prostate cancer, as well as distinguish between PRAD and normal prostate tissues and other urinary samples.

Identification of differentially methylated genes as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of breast cancer

Xiao-hong Mao et al.

Summary: Aberrant DNA methylation is significantly associated with breast cancer. 23 significant differentially methylated sites, corresponding to 9 different genes, were identified in breast cancer datasets. High expression of selected methylation genes was strongly predictive for breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis.

Salivary Gland Pleomorphic Adenomas Presenting With Extremely Varied Clinical Courses. A Single Institution Case-Control Study†

Krzysztof Piwowarczyk et al.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in recurrence risk and other factors between fast and slow Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) subgroups. The results showed that fast PAs significantly increased the risk of recurrence, and factors such as age, tumor growth rate, and surgical margins can impact tumor recurrence rate when compared to slow PAs.

Epigenetic Biomarkers for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Liver Disease

Maria Arechederra et al.

Summary: Cellular identity and function are regulated by the correct expression of genetic information, which is controlled by various epigenetic mechanisms such as DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNA expression. Abnormalities in these mechanisms are associated with the development of multiple diseases. Chronic liver disease, including hepatocellular carcinoma, is on the rise globally, but management of these patients is challenging due to late diagnosis and lack of effective therapies. Understanding and targeting epigenetic alterations may provide new therapeutic strategies and diagnostic tools for these diseases.

miRNAs as Biomarkers for Diagnosing and Predicting Survival of Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma Patients

Igor Piotrowski et al.

Summary: Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) is the sixth most common cancer globally, originating from epithelial cells of the upper aerodigestive tract. This study found significant differences in miRNA expression between tumor and healthy tissues, as well as among different tumor locations, suggesting a potential for miRNAs as biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of HNSCC.
