Interleukin-1 beta Induced Matrix Metalloproteinase Expression in Human Periodontal Ligament-Derived Mesenchymal Stromal Cells under In Vitro Simulated Static Orthodontic Forces

Christian Behm et al.

Summary: The periodontal ligament responds to orthodontic forces by ECM remodeling, influenced by IL-1 beta and aseptic inflammation. IL-1 beta affects the expression of MMPs and TIMPs in hPDL-MSCs under low-magnitude orthodontic forces. FBS suppresses IL-1 beta-induced expression of MMPs and TIMPs, suggesting a complex interplay in the response of hPDL-MSCs to static orthodontic strains.

Dental pulp stem cells can improve muscle dysfunction in animal models of Duchenne muscular dystrophy

Yuko Nitahara-Kasahara et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential therapeutic benefits of systemic treatment with dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). DPSC-treated animal models showed improved muscle function and locomotor activity with downregulated inflammation. Interestingly, long-term follow-up also revealed maintenance of running capability and stabilized cardiac function after DPSC treatment.

Dental Pulp-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells for Modeling Genetic Disorders

Keiji Masuda et al.

Summary: Dental pulp stem cells, derived from multipotent neural crest cells, have high proliferative capacity and multipotent potential for various applications. Stem cells donated by patients with genetic disorders can serve as disease models. Ethical considerations and potential applications of these stem cells donated and reused are worth exploring.

The Effects of Cryogenic Storage on Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells

Nela Pilbauerova et al.

Summary: This study aimed to observe the effect of uncontrolled-rate freezing on DPSCs stored for 6 and 12 months. It was found that DPSCs retained their stemness markers and low-level expression of hematopoietic markers even after one year of cryopreservation at -80 degrees C, suggesting that DPSCs can still be successfully used in potential clinical applications after a year of uncontrolled cryopreservation.

A Cell-Based Approach to Dental Pulp Regeneration Using Mesenchymal Stem Cells: A Scoping Review

Sahng G. Kim

Summary: Despite the recent surge in studies on dental pulp regeneration using tissue engineering strategies, the translation of these findings into therapeutic applications remains a challenge. This scoping review systematically reviewed the efficacy of mesenchymal stem cell transplantation for dental pulp regeneration, showing potential for vascularized pulp-like tissue regeneration and successful regeneration of vital tissue in clinical trials. More high-quality studies are needed to further evaluate the safety and efficacy of stem cell transplantation for dental pulp regeneration.

Effect of Inducible BMP-7 Expression on the Osteogenic Differentiation of Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells

Ferenc Toth et al.

Summary: The induced expression of BMP-7 failed to induce osteogenic differentiation of dental pulp stem cells. Three different mechanisms are proposed for further investigation towards the engineering of expression systems that can be used to induce differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells.

Sinking Our Teeth in Getting Dental Stem Cells to Clinics for Bone Regeneration

Sarah Hani Shoushrah et al.

Summary: Dental stem cells isolated from medical waste of dental tissues have been characterized by various markers and can be differentiated into multiple cell types. In vitro applications of these stem cells for disease modeling, pharmaceutical research, and tissue regeneration have shown potential for hard tissue regeneration, especially in bone. Current research indicates the benefits of using dental stem cells, but there is a lack of clinical trials, highlighting the need for further research and translation.
