Hidradenitis suppurativa: an update on epidemiology, phenotypes, diagnosis, pathogenesis, comorbidities and quality of life

T. Nguyen et al.

Summary: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that severely impairs patients' quality of life. Patients with HS often experience significant diagnostic delays and the symptoms can lead to a decrease in quality of life.

miR-146a modulates TLR1/2 and 4 induced inflammation and links it with proliferation and lipid production via the indirect regulation of GNG7 in human SZ95 sebocytes

Katalin Dull et al.

Summary: Activation of TLR 1/2 and 4 induces the highest expression of miR-146a in sebocytes, leading to decreased IL-8 secretion, reduced chemotaxis, and increased proliferation. Inhibition of miR-146a correlates with induction of GNG7, while mimicking miR-146a results in down-regulation of GNG7 expression. Moreover, inhibition of GNG7 increases lipid content and decreases proliferation in sebocytes.

The PI3K/Akt Pathway: Emerging Roles in Skin Homeostasis and a Group of Non-Malignant Skin Disorders

Yan Teng et al.

Summary: The PI3K/Akt signaling pathway plays a crucial role in the regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration, as well as in skin development and homeostasis. Dysregulation of this pathway is linked to various human cutaneous malignancies and non-malignant skin disorders. Understanding the dysfunction of the PI3K/Akt pathway has led to advancements in identifying therapeutic targets for non-malignant skin disorders.

MicroRNAs as biomarkers of atrophic scarring in acne: a cross-sectional analysis of 41 patients

W. Ghumra et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish a miRNA signature for acne and associated atrophic scarring, and to identify if a pattern of circulating miRNA is evident in patients prone to scarring. The research found that three miRNAs, miR-223, miR-21, and miR-150, were significantly overexpressed in acne lesions, and notably in clinically uninvolved skin of participants prone to scarring.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa: Where We Are and Where We Are Going

Emanuele Scala et al.

Summary: Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic inflammatory skin disease primarily affecting apocrine gland-rich areas of the body. The pathogenesis involves follicular occlusion, immune responses, and results in an inflammatory vicious circle. Therapeutic approaches are limited, often requiring surgical interventions, presenting a challenge in treating this debilitating disease.
