Magnetic field-induced control of a compound ferrofluid droplet deformation and breakup in shear flow using a hybrid lattice Boltzmann-finite difference method

Mohammad Majidi et al.

Summary: This paper numerically studied the deformation and breakup dynamics of a compound ferrofluid droplet under shear flow and uniform magnetic field. By increasing the capillary number, the outer interface deformation is increased while increasing the magnetic Bond number leads to elongation of both inner and outer interfaces in the direction of the imposed magnetic field. The regime maps of compound droplet morphology and breakup in terms of capillary and magnetic Bond numbers were presented, showing different shapes in the non-breakup region.

Lattice Boltzmann Method simulation of flow and forced convective heat transfer on 3D micro X-ray tomography of metal foam heat sink

E. Hamidi et al.

Summary: The study focuses on fluid flow and thermal distribution in isothermal forced convection heat transfer through metal foams. Using Micro-Computed Tomography scanning to obtain the true geometry of metal foam samples, the Lattice Boltzmann Method is applied to calculate fluid flow and heat transfer. The correlations between flow and heat transfer in metal foam samples are discussed based on numerical results.

Natural convection of nanofluids in solar energy collectors based on a two-phase lattice Boltzmann model

Cong Qi et al.

Summary: The study investigated laminar convection of nanofluids in five types of solar energy collectors, analyzing the effects of different Rayleigh numbers, structures, and aspect ratios on heat transfer. Results showed that higher Rayleigh numbers intensified heat convection of nanofluids, while special structures weakened heat transfer effects.

A simple and efficient parallel immersed boundary-lattice Boltzmann method for fully resolved simulations of incompressible settling suspensions

Maoqiang Jiang et al.

Summary: This study presents an efficient and parallel fully resolved direct numerical simulation (FR-DNS) method for large-scale 2D and 3D suspension flows. The study combines the boundary-thickening direct forcing immersed boundary method (BTDF-IBM) and incompressible lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) to achieve accurate and realistic simulations. The results show promising parallel speedup and efficiency, highlighting the potential of this method in various industrial applications.

Quantitative visualization and characteristics of gas flow in 3D pore-fracture system of tight rock based on Lattice Boltzmann simulation

Peng Hou et al.

Summary: This study reconstructed and simulated the 3D pore-fracture system of tight rock to investigate the effects of micro-fracture morphology and gas rarefaction effect on gas flow and permeability. The results show that gas flow behavior is influenced by these factors, with the pore-fracture structure being more sensitive at low-pressure conditions.

Lattice Boltzmann simulations of stochastic thin film dewetting

S. Zitz et al.

Summary: We numerically investigated the impact of thermal fluctuations and variable fluid-substrate interactions on the spontaneous dewetting of thin liquid films. It was found that thermal fluctuations lead to shorter rupture times, especially on hydrophilic substrates, regardless of the contact angle theta. However, the ratio between deterministic and stochastic rupture times decreases with theta. Additionally, we discussed the fluctuating thin film dewetting on chemically patterned substrates and its correlation with the form of wettability gradients.
