An Innovative Tuned Liquid Damper for Vibration Mitigation of Structures

Performance Investigation of Circular TLD Devices Used in Wind Turbine Generation Tower via Both Experiment and Numerical Simulation

Summary: The wind turbine generation tower is built taller and thinner to harness greater wind velocity, leading to wind-induced vibration effects that must be addressed. Tuned Liquid Damper (TLD) is utilized as an effective and cost-efficient method to mitigate vibration in slender towers. This study investigates the performance of TLD devices through experimentation and numerical simulation based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), showing that the natural frequency and damping ratio of TLD for both experiment and engineering are similar, and numerical simulation can accurately predict the natural frequency of TLD.
