Reducing atmospheric pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions of heavy duty trucks by substituting diesel with hydrogen in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei-Shandong region, China

Junming Lao et al.

Summary: The extensive use of diesel heavy duty trucks in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei-Shandong region has led to significant atmospheric pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. By substituting hydrogen fuel cell heavy duty trucks for diesel trucks, there can be a substantial reduction in GHG and pollutant emissions, with the data showing a 25% contribution from the BTHS region in China.

Liquid Transport Through Nanoscale Porous Media with Strong Wettability

Jie Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the interfacial effects on liquid transport through nanopores with strong wettability for potential applications. Molecular dynamics simulations were used to analyze the wetted liquid argon through nanochannels, establishing a mathematical model for liquid flow in nanoporous media. The results show strong liquid-solid attraction leading to adsorption on solid walls, with a reduction in diffusion coefficient near the interface, and the presence of negative slip length near solid walls. The negative slip length decreases linearly with driving force, impacting liquid flow rate due to reduced cross section for fluid transport.

Future Power Train Solutions for Long-Haul Trucks

Ralf Peters et al.

Summary: To achieve the CO2 reduction targets for 2050, extensive measures are needed in all sectors, particularly in transportation which has not yet seen substantial reduction in emissions. Increasing the use of electric vehicles powered by batteries or fuel cells and utilizing synthetic fuels made from hydrogen and carbon dioxide are key strategies. These options require significant expansion of renewable electricity generation capacities. Analyzing various road freight transport options can help improve efficiency and address the challenges in fulfilling long-distance transport requirements.

Deployment of fuel cell vehicles in China: Greenhouse gas emission reductions from converting the heavy-duty truck fleet from diesel and natural gas to hydrogen

Feiqi Liu et al.

Summary: Hydrogen fuel cells are gaining attention as a potential carbon mitigation strategy for heavy duty vehicles. This study calculates the greenhouse gas emissions of the Chinese heavy-duty truck fleet under four hydrogen fuel cell penetration scenarios, showing significant reductions in GHG emissions can be achieved by using fuel cell vehicles. By combining an analysis of the carbon intensity of various hydrogen production pathways with predictions of the future hydrogen supply structure in China and different penetration rates of heavy-duty fuel cell vehicles, practical applications of the research are provided.

Health Cost Estimation of Traffic-Related Air Pollution and Assessing the Pollution Reduction Potential of Zero-Emission Vehicles in Toronto, Canada

Hamidreza Shamsi et al.

Summary: Fossil fuel vehicles emitting air pollutants pose a heavy burden on the economy, human health, and the environment. The high volume of vehicles driving on Toronto Highway 401 annually releases large amounts of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases, posing significant health risks. Research shows that the health costs of air pollution far exceed the costs of climate change caused by air pollution.
