Structure sensitivity and its effect on methane turnover and carbon co-product selectivity in thermocatalytic decomposition of methane over supported Ni catalysts

Mengze Xu et al.

Summary: The size of Ni particles has an impact on the catalytic performance in methane thermocatalytic decomposition, with larger particles leading to the formation of carbon nanotubes and smaller particles resulting in graphitic carbon layers. The formation of graphitic carbon layers blocks access to active sites, causing faster deactivation of the catalyst.

Unsupported nickel catalyst prepared from nickel foam for methane decomposition and recycling the carbon deposited spent catalyst

Zhiyuan Ren et al.

Summary: Catalytic methane decomposition using unsupported nickel catalysts derived from commercial nickel foam shows highly dependent catalytic performance on pre-treatment and reaction temperature. Thermal and acid-thermal treatments can greatly enhance catalytic activity, with methane conversion rates reaching up to 74.6% and 91.8% at 850 degrees Celsius. Recycling carbon deposited spent catalysts can achieve high and stable methane conversion rates, while the spent catalysts can also serve as promising candidates for supercapacitor electrode materials.

Graphene Aerogel Supported Ni for CO2 Hydrogenation to Methane

Feiyang Hu et al.

Summary: The study found that the CO2 conversion rate and CH4 selectivity of the Ni/GA catalyst were higher than those of the Ni/GO catalyst. Ni/GA has a three-dimensional structure and rich porosity, with Ni evenly distributed in GA. Raman spectra show that GA has more oxygen vacancies, TPR experiments demonstrate that Ni/GA has better reducibility, and DRIFTS confirms that formate is the key intermediate for the hydrogenation of CO2 to CH4.

Recent development in electrocatalysts for hydrogen production through water electrolysis

Shams Anwar et al.

Summary: Hydrogen is a carbon-free alternative energy source for future energy frameworks, offering environmental friendliness and high energy density. Water electrolysis is a sustainable method to produce high purity hydrogen, and developing electrocatalysts for this process is crucial. While precious metals are traditionally used for electrocatalysis, non-precious metal-based electrocatalysts have advantages in cost and eco-friendliness, but further research is needed for their development.

Effects of rhodium catalyst support and particle size on dry reforming of methane at moderate temperatures

Katsuya Shimura et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dry reforming of methane over Rh catalysts with different supports, Rh particle sizes, and acidic properties. Catalysts with a high density of strongly acidic sites showed low activity and gradual deactivation, while those with a low density of strongly acidic sites exhibited high, stable activity. Rh/SiO2-TiO2 showed the best performance, with activity strongly dependent on Rh particle size and support type.
