Modification of CuO-ZrO2-ZnO Mixed Oxide Catalyst with Mn, Ga, Ni: Impact on Physicochemical Properties and Hydrogen Production via Low Temperature Steam Reforming of Ethanol

Michal Sliwa et al.

Summary: The modification of CuO/ZrO2/ZnO catalyst with Mn, Ni, Ga was evaluated for its physicochemical properties and activity in the steam reforming of ethanol reaction. The addition of Mn and Ga resulted in increased hydrogen yield and decreased selectivity to acetaldehyde. The characterization of spent catalysts showed changes in phase compositions and reducibility. The addition of Mn maintained the copper in a +2 oxidation state, while the addition of Ni led to carbon deposition on the catalyst surface.

Spinel-type MnxCr3-xO4-based catalysts for ethanol steam reforming

E. A. Smal et al.

Summary: This study elucidates the fundamental factors determining the performance of manganese-chromium oxides catalysts in ethanol steam reforming, with a focus on metal-support interaction, lattice oxygen mobility, and the positive effect of Ni-Ru interaction on catalytic activity. The catalyst with the highest TOF is a (Ni + Ru)-loaded oxide support containing cubic spinel phase of MnCr2O4 composition, which exhibits high density of active sites, surface enrichment by Mn, and sufficient oxygen mobility providing coking stability, making it attractive for practical application.

Summary: The addition of citric acid improved the dispersion and reduced particle size of metal particles, while catalysts prepared from ammonia solution showed the largest metal particle size. In steam reforming of ethanol, dehydrogenation of ethanol takes place preferentially on terrace sites, while cleavage of C-C bond is favored by edge/steps sites.

Synthesis, characterization, and catalytic activity of Ni/CeMnO2 catalysts promoted by copper, cobalt, potassium and iron for ethanol steam reforming

Soheila Sohrabi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that catalysts promoted by Cu and Fe exhibited higher conversion rates and hydrogen yields. The Co promoter effectively facilitated the water-gas shift reaction, leading to decreased CO selectivity. The poor performance of the K-promoted sample was attributed to a low specific surface area and reduced Ni dispersion.

Hydrogen production by ethanol steam reforming over M-Ni/sepiolite (M = La, Mg or Ca) catalysts

Mingqiang Chen et al.

Summary: Ethanol steam reforming (ESR) is a promising technology for hydrogen production, but efficient Ni-based catalysts are still a challenge. In this study, M-Ni/ Sepiolite catalysts were synthesized and characterized, showing that La, Mg, and Ca promoters enhance Ni-0 active sites. The Ca-Ni/SEP catalyst exhibited high carbon conversion and hydrogen yield due to small Ni particle size and strong metal-support interaction.
