Combustion oscillation characteristics of a supersonic ethylene jet flame using high-speed planar laser-induced fluorescence and dynamic mode decomposition

Jiangbo Peng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the combustion oscillation characteristics of a supersonic ethylene jet flame in a hot coflow using high-speed hydroxyl planar laser-induced fluorescence (OH-PLIF) technique and dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) method. The results showed that flame instability increased with Mach number, but jet velocity did not affect global flame oscillation frequency. Additionally, DMD analysis quantified the spatiotemporal three-dimensional oscillation characteristics of the jet flame.

Flame Structure Characterization in a Dual-Mode Scramjet Using Hydroxyl Planar Laser-Induced Fluorescence

Clayton M. Geipel et al.

Summary: The study utilized planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) to image a premixed ethylene-air turbulent flame in a high-speed flowfield, aiming to generate experimental data for comparisons with direct numerical simulations in the future. The local OH gradient was used to isolate the flame front and obtain data such as flame surface density and flame front curvature. Results showed that the distribution of local flame front curvature values remained approximately constant across the domain.
