Geometrization of light bending and its application to SdS w spacetime

Zhen Zhang

Summary: The mysterious dark energy remains one of the greatest puzzles of modern science, and its spacetime effects can be locally described by the SdS( w ) metric. Understanding these local effects exactly is an essential step toward the direct probe of dark energy. Through mathematical and conceptual analysis, it has been proven that dark energy can exert a repulsive dark force on astrophysical scales, which is different from the Newtonian attraction of both visible and dark matter.

Maximum baryon masses for static neutron stars in f(R) gravity

A. Astashenok et al.

Summary: This study investigates the upper mass limit predictions of baryonic mass for static neutron stars in the context of f (R) gravity, focusing on the R-2 gravity model. The results show that most equations of state studied have baryon masses near the lower limits of the mass gap region, with the highest maximum baryon mass found to be around 3 times the solar mass. The analysis suggests that the gravitational mass of static neutron stars cannot exceed three solar masses, while the lower mass limits of astrophysical black holes are likely to be in the range of 2.5-3 solar masses, supporting the claim that neutron stars cannot have gravitational masses larger than 3 solar masses in the context of R-2 gravity.

Ghost-free F (R, G) gravity

S. Nojiri et al.

Summary: In this work, we address the ghost issue in F(R, G) gravity and propose a technique to eliminate ghost degrees of freedom. By introducing auxiliary scalar fields and employing the Lagrange multiplier technique, the theory can be ghost-free in the Einstein frame and used as a reconstruction technique for various cosmological evolutions of interest. We demonstrate how this reconstruction technique can realize several cosmologically interesting phenomenologies.

Causal limit of neutron star maximum mass in f(R) gravity in view of GW190814

A. V. Astashenok et al.

Summary: Investigated the causal limit of maximum mass for stars in the framework of f(R) gravity, numerically examining the combined effect of causal equation of state and sound speed on maximum mass of static neutron stars. This provides the most extreme upper bound for neutron star masses in extended gravity.

Neutron stars phenomenology with scalar-tensor inflationary attractors

S. D. Odintsov et al.

Summary: This work examines the implications of a subclass of E-models cosmological attractors, known as a-attractors, on hydrodynamically stable slowly rotating neutron stars. By numerically solving the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations in the Einstein frame, the study finds that the masses and radii of neutron stars vary with the parameter a characterizing the a-attractors. Results indicate a complex relationship between non-minimal inflationary attractors and neutron star phenomenology in scalar-tensor theory.

A refined Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet inflationary theoretical framework

V. K. Oikonomou

Summary: In this work, a refined Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet inflationary theoretical framework is provided, which is compatible with observational constraints on the gravitational wave speed. By introducing new assumptions and conditions, much simpler expressions for the slow-roll indices, tensor and scalar spectral indices, and tensor-to-scalar ratio are successfully derived. A particular model with a blue-tilted tensor spectral index is exemplified, showing compatibility with the latest Planck data and potential to describe the NANOGrav result according to recent literature.

Universal inflationary attractors implications on static neutron stars

V. K. Oikonomou

Summary: This study focuses on static neutron stars within a specific class of non-minimally coupled inflationary potentials, known as universal attractors. The analysis reveals that all studied cases predict larger maximum masses for neutron stars and are consistent with the GW170817 constraints on neutron star radii.

Novel stellar astrophysics from extended gravity

A. Astashenok et al.

Summary: Novel implications on neutron stars come from extended gravity. Specifically, new research suggests the possibility of large mass stars in the mass gap region, which may require extensions of General Relativity to successfully describe this phenomenon and speculate on the largest allowed neutron star mass in a quantitative manner.
