Evaluating the 35°C wet-bulb temperature adaptability threshold for young, healthy subjects (PSU HEAT Project)

Summary: This study for the first time uses empirical physiological observations to examine the widely-publicized theoretical limit of 35 degrees C wet-bulb temperature for human adaptability to extreme environments. It found that uncompensable heat stress in humid environments occurs at wet-bulb temperatures significantly lower than 35 degrees C in young, healthy adults. Additionally, the study shows that uncompensable heat stress occurs at widely different wet-bulb temperatures depending on ambient vapor pressure.

MesoSoil v2.0: An updated soil physical property database for the Oklahoma Mesonet

Summary: Soil moisture data from the Oklahoma Mesonet have been utilized in various Earth sciences, with the recent release of an improved version of the Rosetta pedotransfer function leading to the creation of the enhanced MesoSoil v2.0 soil physical property database. The updated database incorporates changes in water retention parameters, particularly a decrease in the parameter alpha, resulting in differences in estimated volumetric water content. Despite these changes, the mean volumetric water content estimated using the new parameters was not significantly different from that determined by soil sampling across multiple sites.
