Assessing the impacts of watershed interventions using ground data and remote sensing: a case study in Ethiopia

M. K. Gumma et al.

Summary: The study findings demonstrate a link between management interventions and improvement in soil and vegetation ecosystem functions. These results not only indicate that watershed-level interventions improve on-site soil and water environmental services but also underline the role of community managed land-use regulations in reducing pressure on natural land-use systems and thereby serve the major goal of up-scaling sustainable land management.

Soil loss rate estimation using a hybrid model of geographic information system coupled with fuzzy logic technique

A. Halefom et al.

Summary: This study quantified soil loss rate and spatial distribution in Shewa Semien zone, Ethiopia using a hybrid model of geographic information system and fuzzy logic technique. It found that slope was a key factor determining the severity of soil loss rate spatially.

Summary: This study evaluated the quantitative effects of soil bunds on surface runoff, soil, and nutrient losses in southwest Ethiopia. The results showed that soil bunds effectively reduced surface runoff and significantly decreased soil and nutrient losses.
