Mixed metal oxide anodes used for the electrochemical degradation of a real mixed industrial wastewater

Mohamed A. Ganzoury et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of an electrochemical oxidation-in-situ coagulation (ECO-IC) process for efficient treatment of mixed industrial wastewater contaminated with heavy metals and organic pollutants. The process successfully degraded organic contaminants and precipitated heavy metals in the solution. ECO-IC shows promise as an effective pre-treatment method for coagulating heavy metals in real industrial wastewaters.

A detailed insight on fabricated porous chitosan in eliminating synthetic anionic dyes from single and multi-adsorptive systems with related studies

Chandi Patra et al.

Summary: Chitosan was successfully fabricated as a potential adsorbent for anionic synthetic dyes, showing high adsorption capacity for Bromophenol blue, Direct blue 6, and Congo red. The adsorption process was found to be influenced by factors such as initial pH, dosage, temperature, and initial concentration of dye species. Competitive Langmuir isotherm model verified antagonistic behavior among different dyes in multi-adsorptive systems over the chitosan surface. The thermodynamics of the sorbate-sorbent interaction were favorable, with minimal interference from co-existing metal cations and anionic salts.

Removal of antibiotic resistance genes from swine wastewater by membrane filtration treatment

Chengyu Liang et al.

Summary: The study used membrane filtration to treat swine wastewater, reducing conventional pollutants and ARGs, thus decreasing the risk of ARGs entering natural water bodies. Results showed that removal of ARGs was correlated with total phosphorus, suspended solids, and electrical conductivity in the wastewater.

Capture of ambient air CO2 from municipal wastewater mineralization by using an ion-exchange membrane

J. M. Monteagudo et al.

Summary: The study focused on capturing ambient air CO2 during the mineralization of synthetic urban wastewater. The UV/H2O2 degradation process was used to convert Total Organic Carbon (TOC) to carbon dioxide, and various parameters were investigated for their effects on CO2 capture and membrane reuse performance. Overall, after five cycles of adsorption and regeneration, a similar CO2 adsorption capacity was observed, with a percentage loss of around 4%.

Characteristics and quantification of mechanisms of Cd2+ adsorption by biochars derived from three different plant-based biomass

Weijie Dai et al.

Summary: The physicochemical properties of rice straw, eucalyptus leaves, and vetiver grass biochars pyrolyzed at 400 degrees C were investigated. It was found that rice straw biochar may possess more acidic functional groups and vetiver grass biochar had the largest specific surface area. Cd2+ adsorption by the biochars was dominated by chemical reaction rather than physical interaction. SEM-EDS, XRD, FTIR, and XPS analyses revealed precipitation, ion exchange, complexation, and cation pi interaction occurring in all the biochars, with precipitation, ion exchange, and cation pi interaction being the main mechanisms contributing to total adsorption capacity.
