A numerical strategy to identify the FSW process optimal parameters of a butt-welded joint of quasi-pure copper plates: modeling and experimental validation

Summary: The study proposes a strategy for identifying the optimal parameters for a butt-welded joint of quasi-pure copper plates through finite element analysis and known optimal temperature. A Johnson-Cook plasticity model obtained from experiments at different temperatures was used to model the thermal-mechanical behavior of the joint, leading to the determination of the optimal parameters for the FSW process. Good agreement between numerical predictions and experimental results was achieved, validating the numerical surface response and enhancing understanding of FSW parameter effects on joint quality through various experimental investigations.
