Study on structures, electronic, spectral and thermodynamic properties of lanthanide-doped boron-based MBn-(M = La, Ce, Pr; n=8, 9) clusters

Cheng-Gang Li et al.

Summary: In this article, the structures, properties, and spectra of MBn (M = La, Ce, Pr; n = 8, 9) clusters were investigated using the CALYPSO searching method and DFT. The study found that the lowest energy structures of MBn clusters exhibit a half-sandwich structure with Cs symmetry. The electronic, spectral, and thermodynamic properties were analyzed and simulated based on these lowest energy structures.

Monovalent lanthanide(I) in borozene complexes

Wan-Lu Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers investigated lanthanide-doped octa-boron clusters with the rare +I oxidation state using photoelectron spectroscopy and theoretical calculations. The results showed a significant change in the oxidation state of lanthanides from +III to +I, leading to the formation of clusters similar to aromatic hydrocarbon molecules with monovalent lanthanide ligands.

Summary: This study conducted an extensive ground-state structure search for CeBn and CeBn- clusters, revealing that both neutral and anionic series possess half-sandwich geometry, with the neutral series showing a tendency to form borophene-like geometry and the anionic series containing more pentagonal and hexagonal holes.

Indentation Strengths of Zirconium Diboride: Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Mechanisms

Cheng Lu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that ZrB2 possesses an intrinsic indentation strength, with variations in hardness values mainly driven by extrinsic factors. The quality of specimen crystallinity is crucial in achieving improved hardness corresponding to the predicted intrinsic strength.
