A lightweight propagation path aggregating network with neural topic model for rumor detection

Summary: A lightweight propagation path aggregating (PPA) neural network was proposed for rumor embedding and classification in this study, demonstrating state-of-the-art performance with much less parameters and training time. The network benefited from a pre-trained neural topic model to fully use unlabeled data and improve performance especially when labeled samples are limited or rumors are spreading at early stage. This topic model offers an explicit interpretation of stance patterns in the form of topics, consequently enhancing the interpretability of the PPA network.

Rumor2vec: A rumor detection framework with joint text and propagation structure representation learning

Summary: Studies have shown that the propagation structure of rumors is crucial for rumor detection, and can significantly improve detection performance. The proposed Rumor2vec framework combines text and propagation structure representation learning, using the concept of the union graph to mitigate sparsity issues. Experimental results demonstrate that the framework outperforms state-of-the-art methods, achieving high accuracies on Twitter and Weibo datasets, and showing early rumor detection capabilities.
