Hydrodistillation alters the compositional originality in black turmeric (Curcuma caesia Roxb.) essential oil

Bhaskar Protim Mahanta et al.

Summary: Hydrodistillation in a Clevenger-type apparatus was used to extract essential oil from black turmeric rhizome, revealing the thermolability of furanodienone and its rearrangement to curzerenone. The study found that the ratio of curzerenone to furanodienone in the essential oil increased with heating, indicating a temperature-dependent rearrangement process. This research confirmed curzerenone as the major artefact in the essential oil of black turmeric.

Evaluation of Postharvest Drying, Key Odorants, and Phytotoxins in Plai (Zingiber montanum) Essential Oil

Pranjit Kumar Bora et al.

Summary: The research found that oven-drying at 40 degrees Celsius and freeze-drying were the most effective methods for sliced rhizomes of plai or cassumunar ginger, maintaining oil yield and sensory quality. The major odorant in the essential oil, 4-terpineol, was identified as both the abundant key odorant and the major phytotoxin negatively affecting seed germination and growth of wheatgrass seeds.
