Celebrex derivatives: Synthesis, α-glucosidase inhibition, crystal structures and molecular docking studies

Nabeela Kausar et al.

Summary: Celebrex, commonly used as an anti-inflammatory drug, was functionalized to identify new alpha-glucosidase inhibitors. Many synthesized derivatives showed potent alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity in vitro, with compound 9 being the most effective inhibitor. Molecular docking studies revealed interactions of compounds 6 and 9 with key amino acid residues of alpha-glucosidase.

Chemical structure and inhibition on α-glucosidase of polysaccharides from corn silk by fractional precipitation

Yanan Jia et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the effect of different corn silk polysaccharide fractions obtained by ethanol precipitation on their physicochemical properties and biological activities. The results showed that the fractions exhibited differences in physical properties and activities, with CSP80 showing stronger antioxidant activity and alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity. Enzyme kinetic analysis indicated that CSP80 inhibited alpha-glucosidase by mixed type and reversible mechanisms, and fluorescence intensity measurements confirmed changes in the secondary structure of alpha-glucosidase due to the binding of CSP80. Isothermal titration calorimetry results illustrated that the binding of CSP80 to alpha-glucosidase complex was driven by enthalpy and hydrogen bonds played a major role in the binding process.

Enhanced antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities of citrus hesperidin by acid-catalyzed hydrolysis

Meiyu Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, hesperidin hydrolysates (HHS) were found to have higher radical scavenging activities, higher reducing capacity, and stronger antioxidant activity compared to hesperidin (HDN). HHS also exhibited greater inhibition of NO production and pro-inflammatory cytokines in RAW 264.7 cells than HDN. Additionally, the minor components (MCS) showed synergistic effects with henperetin (HTN) on the above activities.

Comparative study of inhibition mechanisms of structurally different flavonoid compounds on α-glucosidase and synergistic effect with acarbose

Jichen Yang et al.

Summary: Flavonoid compounds have anti-diabetic activity by controlling blood glucose levels through inhibiting the activity of alpha-glucosidase. The study showed that these compounds had higher inhibitory activities compared to acarbose, with scutellarein potentially serving as the most effective inhibitor. Additionally, the synergistic effects of flavonoid compounds combined with acarbose on alpha-glucosidase activity were observed.
