Production of Chlorine Dioxide Using Hydrogen Peroxide and Chlorates

Mayra K. S. Monteiro et al.

Summary: Chlorine dioxide was produced by the reduction of chlorate with hydrogen peroxide in strongly acidic media. UV spectra were acquired to monitor the chlorate reduction process. The study found a linear relationship between the amount of limiting reagent consumed and the maximum height of the absorption peak at 360 nm, allowing for calculations of the maximum amount of chlorine dioxide formed. Results showed efficient formation of chlorine dioxide with high reproducibility.

Understanding ozone generation in electrochemical cells at mild pHs

M. Rodriguez-Pena et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the production of ozone at mild pH conditions using a commercial electrochemical PEM cell CONDIAPURE (R) and proposes a phenomenological model to understand the processes inside the cell. It is found that ozone production can be explained by the oxidation of water, while ozone decomposition plays a crucial role. The model successfully explains the impact of operation mode, current intensity, and presence of organics on ozone production.
