Interdigital Capacitive Sensor for Cable Insulation Defect Detection: Three-Dimensional Modeling, Design, and Experimental Test

Summary: XLPE cables are widely used in power systems due to their excellent electrical and mechanical properties. Poor manufacturing techniques in cable joint production and installation can lead to insulation defects. The IDC sensor, with its simple structure and non-contact advantages, shows great potential for online monitoring of XLPE cables. This paper focuses on the 3D modeling of a fully covered IDC sensor for cable insulation detection, discussing the electric field distributions, sensitivity variations, and optimization of sensor parameters to reduce fringe capacitance influence. Ultimately, the study highlights the importance of air gaps between the sensor and XLPE cable in simulation and experimental differences, and presents results on using different types of sensors to detect cable joint defects under various excitation voltage frequencies.

Wide range and highly linear signal processed systematic humidity sensor array using Methylene Blue and Graphene composite

Summary: This paper introduces a signal processed systematic 3 x 3 humidity sensor array with highly linear humidity response based on different particles size composite inks and different interspaces of interdigital electrodes (IDEs). The array achieves all range linear function by combining nine sensors and demonstrates fast response and recovery times. Overall, the proposed humidity sensor array opens up new possibilities for a wide range of humidity sensing applications.

Humidity sensor based on Gallium Nitride for real time monitoring applications

Summary: Gallium Nitride (GaN) based humidity sensor was fabricated using pulse modulated DC magnetron sputtering, with interdigitated electrodes (IDEs) to enhance sensitivity. The sensor exhibited linear impedance response, high sensitivity, and fast response and recovery times, showing little hysteresis and good stability for accurate measurements. Experimental results demonstrated its effectiveness in evaluating plant transpiration cycle and monitoring freshness level of food products, making it a promising candidate for future electronics applications.
