Histopathological correlation of punctate echogenic foci on ultrasonography in papillary thyroid carcinoma

Min Ji Hong et al.

Summary: The study found that PEF were present in 58.7% of PTCs, with psammomatous calcifications, coarse microcalcifications, and inspissated colloids more frequently found in PTCs with PEF. 90.1% of PTCs with PEF had some type of microcalcifications, and psammomatous calcifications were identified as the main pathological entity associated with PEF in PTC.

A Closer Look at Taller-Than-Wide Thyroid Nodules: Examining Dimension Ratio to Predict Malignancy

Aviva S. Mattingly et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the nodule height-to-width ratio as a continuous variable for predicting the likelihood of thyroid malignancy. The results showed that there is an association between greater height-to-width ratio and malignancy. By observing the changes in the ratio within different intervals, a more accurate prediction of malignancy likelihood can be achieved.

Update on ACR TI-RADS: Successes, Challenges, and Future Directions, From the AJR Special Series on Radiology Reporting and Data Systems

Jenny K. Hoang et al.

Summary: The ACR TI-RADS is an ultrasound-based risk stratification system for thyroid nodules that has been shown to have higher specificity and reduce unnecessary biopsies compared to other systems. It also mitigates the risk of missing significant cancers through follow-up recommendations for nodules that do not meet biopsy criteria. Practices implementing ACR TI-RADS must engage their radiologists to address overdiagnosis and unnecessary surgeries by reducing unnecessary biopsies.

Comparison of preoperative diagnostic accuracy of fine needle aspiration and core needle biopsy in parotid gland neoplasms

Abdurrahman Bugra Cengiz et al.

Summary: FNA and CNB are commonly used approaches for the diagnosis of suspected neoplastic parotid gland lesions. The study found that CNB has excellent diagnostic ability, sensitivity, and specificity compared to FNA, although it requires experienced staff and good-quality equipment. The complication rates for both techniques are low, with CNB being considered the preferred technique for detecting nodules in the parotid glands.
