Dynamic and thermodynamic impacts of climate change on organized convection in Alaska

Basile Poujol et al.

Summary: This study finds that Arctic marine basins contribute to the increase in relative humidity over Alaska due to loss of sea ice, leading to a potential increase in organized convective storms. The future climate scenario could lead to more unstable thermodynamic environments and increased low-level buoyancy, favoring the onset of organized convection. The uniqueness and vulnerability of pan-Arctic continental regions to climate change are highlighted by the potential increase in organized thunderstorms.

Carbon emission from Western Siberian inland waters

Jan Karlsson et al.

Summary: High-latitude regions, particularly Western Siberia, play a crucial role in the carbon cycle and climate system. Emission of carbon from inland waters, such as rivers and lakes, exceeds carbon export to the Arctic Ocean and is a major contributor to the regional carbon balance. This highlights the importance of coupled land-water studies in understanding the contemporary carbon cycle and its response to warming.
