Crop performance and soil fertility improvement using organic fertilizer produced from valorization of Carica papaya fruit peel

S. O. Dahunsi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the valorization of Carica papaya fruit peels for organic fertilizer production via anaerobic digestion and found that the organic fertilizer had a better effect on maize plants compared to chemical fertilizer, especially at medium to high application rates. Bioaccumulation of nutrient elements in plant organs was observed, with the highest values observed in the experiment with 50 kg N/ha. Overall, using anaerobic digestates as organic fertilizers in agricultural practices is a sustainable method to reduce reliance on high rates of inorganic fertilizers.

Comparative transcriptome analysis of resistant and cultivated tomato lines in response to Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis

Huseyin Basim et al.

Summary: The transcriptome responses of Cmm-resistant and -susceptible tomato lines were compared after inoculation with Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis. Differentially expressed genes were identified, with susceptible lines showing more genes involved in biological processes and molecular functions, while resistant lines exhibited distinct defense response and stress-related genes upon inoculation. This study provides insights for molecular breeding studies aiming to control the pathogen in tomato.

Live single-cell transcriptional dynamics via RNA labelling during the phosphate response in plants

Sahar Hani et al.

Summary: In this study, real-time visualization of transcriptional regulation in living Arabidopsis plants was achieved using the latest-generation RNA imaging system combined with microfluidics. The research revealed quantitative measurements of transcriptional activity at single loci in single cells, gene bursting, and large allelic differences, as well as the dominance of intrinsic noise in transcriptional control. Additionally, fast kinetics of transcriptional repression triggered by phosphate in roots and heterogeneity between neighboring cells were observed, providing valuable insights for future studies of signaling processes in plants.

Phosphorus fertilization is eradicating the niche of northern Eurasia's threatened plant species

Martin Joseph Wassen et al.

Summary: An analysis of plant diversity and stoichiometric niches in herbaceous ecosystems across northern Eurasia reveals that phosphorus fertilization and increases in relative phosphorus availability associated with current measures to reduce nitrogen deposition may seriously threaten plant species of high conservation concern. Low absolute and relative phosphorus availability is found to be more critical than nitrogen or potassium availability.
