The oncogenic potential of NANOG: An important cancer induction mediator

Basira Najafzadeh et al.

Summary: Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a unique population in tumors, and the transcription factor NANOG plays a pivotal role in conferring CSCs with their characteristics and functions. Understanding and targeting NANOG may be key in diminishing CSCs, sensitizing tumors to chemotherapy, and eradicating cancer cells.

microRNA-377 acts as a suppressor in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma through CBX3-dependent P53/P21 pathway

Zhisheng He et al.

Summary: Upregulation of miR-377 inhibits self-renewal of ESCC stem cells by targeting CBX3 and activating the P53/P21 pathway, leading to decreased expression of stem-like markers and reduced abilities of cell proliferation and tumorigenicity.

RNAi mediated silencing of Nanog expression suppresses the growth of human colorectal cancer stem cells

Chen Zhang et al.

Summary: Nanog, highly expressed in colorectal cancer stem cells, plays a crucial role in tumor growth development. Silencing Nanog inhibits proliferation and promotes apoptosis of cancer stem cells, reduces invasive ability, and decreases tumor size and weight while improving survival rates.

Summary: In pediatric ALL patients, elevated levels of Bmi-1 and NANOG were associated with poorer survival rates. These findings suggest that Bmi-1 and NANOG may serve as novel prognostic factors and therapeutic targets for pediatric ALL.
