Direct brackish water desalination using Chlorella vulgaris microalgae

Malihe Barahoei et al.

Summary: This study investigated the suitability of using Chlorella vulgaris for brackish water desalination, finding that modifying the culture medium resulted in enhanced microalgae growth and salt removal efficiency. The results suggest that Na+ ions are adsorbed on the Chlorella vulgaris cell surface, contributing to the desalination process.

Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) processing of unhydrolyzed solids (UHS) for hydrochar and its use for asymmetric supercapacitors with mixed (Mn,Ti)-Perovskite oxides

V. S. Amar et al.

Summary: In this study, heavy bio-oil (HBO) and hydrochar were generated from unhydrolyzed solid (UHS) derived from corn stover through hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL). The effects of different parameters on hydrochar yield and properties were investigated. The maximum specific capacitance was observed for the hydrochar electrode materials obtained at the HTL processing conditions of 275 degrees C temperature, 1 h reaction time, and specific UHS:water ratios.

Waste-to-wealth application of wastewater treatment algae-derived hydrochar for Pb(II) adsorption

Jiuling Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, hydrochar derived from hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) was recycled and prepared as an adsorbent for Pb(II) removal. CO2 activation and ash removal alkali treatment were introduced to significantly enhance the adsorption capacity of Pb(II) in wastewater, achieving a low equilibrium concentration of Pb(II) below the maximum level set by the World Health Organization for drinking water. This approach not only provides a renewable adsorbent candidate for lead adsorption, but also offers an alternative route to reduce solid waste effluent from HTL process.
