NiO-based ceramic structured catalysts for ethylene production: Substrates and active sites

P. Brussino et al.

Summary: Structured catalysts with different ceramic structures were utilized for the deposition of NiO-Al2O3 coatings in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane. Better catalytic performance was observed when cordierite monolith and alumina foam were used as substrates, resulting in higher ethylene selectivity values compared to the alumina-silica paper substrate. The addition of a second element like cerium led to an increase in ethane conversion but a decrease in ethylene selectivity, attributed to the generation of electrophilic oxygen species.

Oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane on diluted or promoted nickel oxide catalysts: Influence of the promoter/diluter

D. Delgado et al.

Summary: The study shows that the catalytic performance of Ti- and Nb-promoted catalysts in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane strongly depends on composition, with both showing similar ethylene selectivity. However, diluted catalysts exhibit significantly different behaviors, with the interaction between NiO and Nb2O5 surface influencing ethylene selectivity.

Ethane oxydehydrogenation over TiP2O7-supported NiO catalysts

Stefan-Bogdan Ivan et al.

Summary: With increasing Ni loading, the surface area of the catalysts decreases while NiO particle size, basicity, and reducibility increase, strongly influencing their catalytic performance in ethane oxydehydrogenation (ODH). Increasing Ni loading boosts ethane conversion but also increases ethylene selectivity.

Preliminary results on the role of the deposition of small amounts of ZrO2 on Al2O3 support on the partial oxidation of methane and ethane over Rh and Ni supported catalysts

Cecilia Mateos Pedrero et al.

Summary: Alumina supported samples with a layer of tetragonal zirconia crystals were prepared, and impregnation with Ni and Rh maintained this layer of tetragonal ZrO2. Different Zr environments and charge densities were observed after tests in CPOM and CPOE. The modified support significantly improved the catalysts' performances, particularly in enhancing hydrogen production.

Tuning selectivity in nickel oxide-catalyzed oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane through control over non-stoichiometric oxygen density

Xiaohui Zhao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the manipulation of non-stoichiometric oxygen density in thermally stable nickel oxide cubes without changing crystallinity, particle size, and morphology. The controlled NSO density is used to tune ethene selectivity in oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane (ODHE) reactions. The research highlights the need for well-defined oxide materials, the importance of utilizing multiple characterization techniques, and the sensitivity of selectivity trends to surface coverages of reaction intermediates.
