Influence of microwave-assisted pyrolysis parameters and additives on phosphorus speciation and transformation in phosphorus-enriched biochar derived from municipal sewage sludge

Zhenquan Fang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the recovery of phosphorus from municipal sewage sludge using microwave-assisted pyrolysis. The research found that optimal temperature and residence time can efficiently recover phosphorus, while the addition of CaO or CaO and MgCl2 can increase the phosphorus content in phosphorus-enriched biochar.

Transformation of Phosphorus during Low-Temperature Co-Combustion of Sewage Sludge with Biowastes

Xiangdong Meng et al.

Summary: This study systematically characterized P transformation during low-temperature co-combustion of sewage sludge with biowaste by combining X-ray absorption spectroscopy, sequential extraction, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy analyses. The introduction of biowaste altered the enrichment efficiency and availability of P in the ash, providing insights into the effects of combustion conditions and feedstock characteristics on P speciation.

Effect of ash on the performance of iron-based oxygen carrier in the chemical looping gasification of municipal sludge

Kun Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, Fe-based oxygen carrier was used to investigate the multi-cycle chemical looping gasification of dried sludge in a lab-scale fluidized-bed reactor. The results showed that as the number of cycles increased, the mole fractions of H-2 and CO2 in synthesis gas eventually stabilized; carbon conversion rate peaked in the fifth cycle; and ash spheroidization and sintering occurred on the surface of OC particles due to the accumulation of unreacted lattice oxygen during the cycles.

Efficient strategy of utilizing alkaline liquid waste boosting biomass chemical looping gasification to produce hydrogen

Wu Qin et al.

Summary: The study developed a one-step strategy to improve the efficiency of hydrogen production from biomass CLG by introducing KNO3-containing acetic acid liquid waste to modify Fe2O3. Experimental results showed that excess oxygen ratio, temperature, and potassium concentrations have significant effects on biomass CLG for hydrogen generation, with the highest hydrogen yield of 1.79 L.

Synergistic effects of CO2 and MgCl2 on heavy metals removal and phosphorus recovery in biochar obtained from pyrolysis of swine sludge

Qi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that the removal efficiencies of Cu and Zn showed different trends in different atmospheres, with chloride addition being particularly sensitive for Zn removal during pyrolysis. The atmosphere significantly affected the removal of Cu. After pyrolysis, the main P-bearing phases were Ca-5(PO4)3Cl and Mg-3(PO4)2, except for Ca(PO3)2 replacing Mg-3(PO4)2 at 900 degrees C under CO2.
