Second-generation ethanol process for integral use of hemicellulosic and cellulosic hydrolysates from diluted sulfuric acid pretreatment of sugarcane bagasse

S. R. Dionisio et al.

Summary: This study proposed a strategy to promote ethanol fermentation by utilizing fermentable sugars from sugarcane bagasse. Through acid pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis, ethanol yield was increased significantly, with a substantial increase in ethanol productivity observed in continuous fermentation cycles.

Value-added soluble metabolite production from sugarcane vinasse within the carboxylate platform: An application of the anaerobic biorefinery beyond biogas production

Felipe Eng Sanchez et al.

Summary: This study explores the potential of using sugarcane vinasse in dark fermentation to recover soluble metabolites, with organic acid production optimized under alkaline/mesophilic conditions. Experimentation also revealed that lactate addition increased the production of specific organic acids, demonstrating the potential for producing organic acids from vinasse as an alternative to gaseous fuels.

Comparisons of urea or ammonium on growth and fermentative metabolism of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in ethanol fermentation

Xinchao Yang et al.

Summary: This study found that urea is more beneficial than ammonium in promoting ethanol production, reducing glycerol synthesis, and decreasing the production rate of acetic acid in yeast during ethanol fermentation. Using urea can also increase cell number and pH value.

Comparative adsorptive performance of adsorbents developed from sugar industrial wastes for the removal of melanoidin pigment from molasses distillery spent wash

Addis Lemessa Jembere et al.

Summary: This study focused on degrading melanoidin pigment from distillery spent wash using impregnated Sugarcane bagasse activated carbon (SCBAC) and Modified Bagasse Fly Ash (MBFA) as adsorbents. Results showed both SCBAC and MBFA had good adsorption efficiency, with Langmuir model and Pseudo-second order kinetics fitting the adsorption process best, and thermodynamics indicating an exothermic and spontaneous process.
