Tunable syngas production from two-stage sorption-enhanced steam gasification of sewage sludge

Xiaoxia Yang et al.

Summary: Syngas, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, is an important feedstock for the production of chemicals and fuels. The tunable H2/CO ratio of syngas produced through sorption-enhanced steam gasification of sewage sludge offers a promising approach to integrate biomass gasification with syngas application, allowing for the production of value-added products. The potential of two-stage SESG in promoting tar decomposition for enhanced syngas production is also highlighted.

Comparison of pyrolysis process, various fractions and potential soil applications between sewage sludge-based biochars and lignocellulose-based biochars

Jia Xing et al.

Summary: This study compared sewage sludge-based biochars (SSBBs) with lignocellulose-based biochars (LCBBs) in terms of their pyrolysis processes, various fractions, and potential soil applications. Significant differences were found in carbon content, surface functional groups, ash fractions, and potential toxic elements between SSBBs and LCBBs. The differences determined the discrepancies in soil application potential and mechanisms.

Pyrolysis of sewage sludge for sustainable biofuels and value-added biochar production

Praveen Kumar Ghodke et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the pyrolysis of sewage sludge to produce eco-friendly fuels and value-added biochar products. The experiments showed that at the optimal temperature of 500 degrees C, the product yield consisted of 22.4 wt% bio-oil, 18.9 wt% pyrolysis gases, and 58.7 wt% biochar. The chemical composition and fuel qualities of bio-oil and pyrolysis gases make them suitable for engine use. Additionally, the biochar analysis demonstrated its potential as organic manure in the agriculture sector.

Effects of Process Parameters on Sulfur Migration and H2S Generation during Supercritical Water Gasification of Sludge

Junhao Lin et al.

Summary: This study found that temperature is a key factor affecting the evolution of sulfur-containing compounds during sludge gasification in supercritical water, with the decomposition of organic sulfur playing a dominant role in the conversion process. The unstable structure of organic sulfur was identified as the main cause of an increase in hydrogen sulfide content. Additionally, the strong solubility and oxidation properties of supercritical water facilitated the conversion of sulfur-containing organic compounds into sulfate crystals, aiding in the simultaneous immobilization of sulfur and heavy metals.
