A comparative study of tough hydrogen bonding dissipating hydrogels made with different network structures

Badri Narayanan Narasimhan et al.

Summary: Hydrogels with tunable dissipative properties were produced by photopolymerizing a second polymer within a preformed cross-linked hydrogel network of poly(acrylamide). Gels incorporating a second network made with poly(tannic acid) showed excellent stiffness and toughness compared to counterparts made with poly(acrylic acid), demonstrating a modular design approach for tailored substrates in cell culture studies and load bearing tissue engineering applications.
